Imo: Pension Drama And The Tragedy Of Desperate Opposition
MAZI EJIMOFOR OPARA

If there is anything clearly known about Governor Hope Uzodinma it is his decisive empathy. Hope may be obstinately resolute but not insensitive or vindictive.
The outing of today is in continuation of a series of organized plot to embarrass the government of the day. That there are Pensioners out on the street to demand for their legitimate entitlement is enough sorry sight on its own. Somehow, the writers of this script decided to go for an overkill when they introduced a counter plot in their frantic chase of public sympathy.
The Imo State of today is not as lawless as when a bunch of illegal rebuilders who once mobilized thugs to Imo airport to hound a former Governor of the State. The Imo State under Hope does not bear any semblance of militancy as there was with the illegal rebuilders who allowed miscreants ignominious latitude to destroy public utilities under the guise of “recovery”. The government of today is not as hapless as employing thugs to enforce legal obligations where necessary.
The outing today and the gory act of engaging thugs to flog supposed Pensioners have all the trappings of the “Mbutu Emperor”. More like his predictable deployment of an Onyeagocha who reduced governance to the creeks where might is right.
Governor Hope Uzodinma, as a product of the Law, cannot be novice to lawful abatement of public malfeasance. This continued criminal upset of public peace, in utter defiance to legally established processes, is typical of Ihedioha and his band of desperate power mongers.
Pensioners with legitimate technical problems that have engendered delays in their pensions are responsibly engaging the system to correct all subsisting anomalies. We are happy that there are verifiable testimonies of Pensioners who have received their due pays. We will continue to encourage our Senior citizens to refuse every allure of unscrupulous elements who are decided on scoring cheap political points.
For the dramatis personaes of today’s tragic show, I hope they have received their artist fees from their Directors and Executive Producers.
Whether they like it or not, Imo must be prosperous to the benefit of all.
