INEC Declares Osun Poll Inconclusive

Neither the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ademola Adeleke, nor the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola could be declared winner of the just concluded gubernatorial election held on Saturday.
Though the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared PDP to have won total votes of 254, 638, APC winning 254,345 votes with difference of 353 votes, the number of votes cancelled in some polling units across the state amounting to 3,498 forced the INEC to declare the results inconclusive.
The INEC Returning Officer, Adeola Fuwape said that the total registered voters in the five polling units where there were irregularities and elections cancellation is 3,498 votes.
“Since that figure was higher than the difference between the votes of the leading candidates, a re-run election had to be conducted,
“Unfortunately, I, Joseph Adeola Fuwape, hereby, declare this election inconclusive
“I must commend the people of Osun State for conducting this election peacefully,” he said
Meanwhile the INEC has said that the rerun will now take place in those affected polling units on Thursday, 27 September.
PM EXPRESS reports that the affected units are two in Orolu Local Government, one in Osogbo, and one each in both Ife South and Ife North.
