Inheritance In Ado Ekiti: Woman, 41, Cries Out For Help Over Threat To Life

A 41-year-old woman, Mrs Ayandeji Funmilayo Christianah, has raised the alarm over the threat to life when she was about to take possession of a property inherited from her late father in Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State, southwest Nigeria, but some members of the family are saying that, being a female child, she has no right to the inheritance

P.M. EXPRESS reports that Mrs Ayandeji inherited a four-bedroom flat with a plot of land situated at 15, Ajebandele Street, Ajilosun in Ado Ekiti from her late father, Mr Babalola Obashola.

Trouble, however, started for Mrs Ayandeji, a single mother of three (one boy and two girls), Ayoniyi Mathew Ayandeji, Elizabeth Obanijesu Ayandeji, and Okiki Christianah Ayandeji, when she travelled down to Ado Ekiti to renovate the house and build another apartment on the one plot of land. She was attacked by some thugs in the community and warned never to step on the land again during her lifetime.

The leader of the thugs threatened her that on no ground would they allow a female child to lay claim to an inheritance in the family.

“The incident happened sometime on 13 April 2024. In the night, the thugs mobilised themselves with the intention of having me killed, together with my children. I was able to escape with my two girls, but the firstborn, Ayoniyi Mathew Ayandeji, was not so lucky. Till today, I don’t know whether he was killed or went missing.

“I reported the incident to a nearby police station with the intention of getting security for myself and my two girls, and possibly guarding the property from being taken away from me.

“To my surprise, instead of the police rescuing the situation, I was told to abide by what the thugs said, as the people behind the hooligans are powerful in society.

“I was afraid for my life. I had to hurriedly leave for Lagos because I didn’t know what the people might be planning.

“On 15 April 2024, I received a call with a hidden number that threatened me that if I valued my life, I should not think of claiming a legitimate inheritance given to me by my late daddy. The person who phoned me warned that they were after me, and that there is nowhere I can hide that their dragnet won’t catch me. I cry unto the Nigerian government to help me find my son said Mrs Ayandeji.
