Jide Kosoko Set To Unveil “Esugbayi Eleko”, a Cinematic Journey Into Colonial Lagos

A meticulously crafted historical epic, “Esugbayi Eleko,” produced by Nollywood veteran Prince (Dr) Jide Kosoko, is set to transport audiences back to the vibrant and tumultuous era of Colonial Lagos. 

The film, a labour of passion and historical dedication, promises to resurrect the story of a pivotal, yet often overlooked, figure in Lagos’s past.

Dr. Kosoko’s ambitious project aims to do more than entertain; it seeks to preserve and illuminate a crucial chapter of Nigeria’s cultural heritage. “Esugbayi Eleko” delves into the life and struggles of Oba Esugbayi, capturing his unwavering resolve to protect the dignity, freedom, and cultural identity of Lagos amidst the rising tide of British colonialism.

The production team, driven by a commitment to authenticity, conducted extensive historical research, consulting with leading historians to faithfully recreate the period. From the bustling marketplaces to the regal palaces, the film meticulously captures the essence of early 20th-century Lagos.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring some of Nollywood’s most celebrated actors, including Femi Branch, Yemi Solade, Yinka Quadri, Saidi Balogun, Broda Shaggi, Femi Adebayo, Dele Odule, Sola Kosoko Abina, Odunlade Adekola, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Yomi Fash Lanso and Alaba Ultimate, among several others. These actors bring depth and authenticity to their roles, enhancing the film’s emotional resonance.

Behind the scenes, directors Adebayo Tijani, Tunde Olaoye, and Tunde Kosoko worked diligently to realize Dr. Kosoko’s vision. The production team also carefully selected historically significant locations across Lagos, creating a visually compelling and immersive experience for viewers.
