A 33-year old jobless man, Samuel Olorunleke, has been arrested in Lagos State for pretending to be a reliable customer after he went to a popular hotel, took choice drinks worth N32,000 and refused to pay while claiming that he had no money because he was jobless.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Park Valley Hotel and Suites at Liasu Road, Ikotun area of Lagos.
Some of the drinks he ordered from the bar included Red Label and six cans of energy drink worth the said amount, which he drank alone and wanted to escape before he was held and handed over to the Police at Ikotun Division for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, Olurunleke told the Police that he took the choice drinks as claimed by the hotel management but he had no money to pay because he was not doing anything.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace by parading and pretending to be a reliable customer but did not have money to pay.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd October, 2022, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions because nobody showed up to facilitate his bail conditions.
