Jubilation, As Ooni of Ife Gifts Water Project To People At 100-Year-Old Agbado Market In Ogun

The Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty Adeyeye Babatunde Ogunwusi Ojaja II, has not relented in his effort to ensure that his subjects, especially the Yorubas, both at home and abroad, are partakers of his humanitarian activities no matter how small it is.
It is not a surprised, however, that after he constructed a modern borehole for the use of market men and women of Oja Ife, the oldest and the first market in Yorubaland situated in Ile-Ife in Osun State, southwest Nigeria on 14 May, 2022, the monarch, in his magnanimity, gave his approval for the construction of another modern borehole for people in Agbado market, Agbado in Ifo Local Government, Ogun State.

The Agbado Community Borehole Project was constructed under the program tagged Free Water For All and was commissioned amid pomp on Sunday 22 May, 2022.
The Free Water for All project is being undertaken by Hopes Alive Initiative (HAI), a philanthropic and non governmental organization (NGO) of Ooni of Ife.
The Commissioning of the water project in Agbado market was witnessed by Princess Folashade Fadairo, one of Ile-Ife princesses, Oba Adebisi Layade Aderotimi 1, Alara Oodaye Of Ara Land, Ile Ife, the Deputy Convener of Hopes Alive Initiative, Princess Temitope Adesegun and many market women who trooped out in their numbers to celebrate the inauguration of the water project.

Princess Fadairo, while acknowledging the importance of water in any human community, thanked the Ooni of Ife for giving the people in the 100 years old market the borehole. She added that she strongly believe that the borehole project would add value to the businesses of all the stakeholders in the market.
In his remarks at the commissioning, Oba Adebisi Layade said the market men and women at Agbado market are lucky to have a water project sited in the area, as the HAI has been going around Nigeria impacting the lives of people.
“The Ooni of Ife is not a politician, but a king with a large heart to help the needy around him. There is no doubt in my mind that Ooni of Ife is a God-sent to our generation,” Oba Layade said.
The Deputy Convener of HAI, Princess Adesegun enjoined the people of the market to make judicious use of the borehole She said that HAI, through the mandate of Ooni of Ife last year, built modern boreholes for people in some communities in Ogun and Lagos states “but this year, Ooni of Ife gave the directive for us to bring the project to marketplaces across Yorubaland.

“We started with Oja Ife, the oldest and the first market in Yorubaland, and now we are doing it at a market which is about 100 years old. I think we must commend the humanitarian heart of our King, the Ooni of Ife for making this to happen. The king is a lover of all his subjects and indeed the Yoruba race, that is why he said we should take this project even outside Ile-Ife for the benefits of a lot of people.”
