Kebbi Govt Trains 21 LG Chairmen On Grassroots Security To Strengthen Intelligence Gathering

In a proactive move to enhance community safety and strengthen intelligence-led policing, the Kebbi State Government has organized a two-day training program for all the 21 Local Government Chairmen in the state. 

The initiative, held in partnership with Shegs Communications Limited, focused on grassroots security and the implementation of predictive community policing strategies.

The training, themed “Predictive Community Policing Training for Local Governments in Kebbi State”, took place in Birnin Kebbi and aimed to equip the Chairmen with practical tools and knowledge to lead security efforts in their respective communities.

Representing the Governor, Comrade (Dr.) Nasir Idris, the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, OFR, emphasized the importance of intelligence-led interventions in tackling security challenges across the state.

“This training program was developed to enhance proactive, intelligence-led policing strategies that will empower our local governments to address emerging security threats. The Kebbi State Government remains committed to supporting our Chairmen and ensuring safety at the grassroots level,” the Deputy Governor stated.

He also commended the innovative use of predictive analytics, noting that staying ahead of security challenges required forward-thinking strategies and collaboration.

In his welcome remarks, Hon. (Alh.) Abubakar Garba Dustin Mari, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Hajiya Aisah Muhamad Maikurata described the workshop as a critical investment in the safety and well-being of Kebbi residents.

“This is not just a workshop—it’s an investment in peace and community development. By equipping our Local Government Chairmen with essential tools and strategies, we are building the foundation for a safer and more secure Kebbi State,” he said.

The Commissioner also urged participants to take full advantage of the workshop, which includes expert-led sessions on crisis management, community engagement, and intelligence coordination.

He highlighted the state’s partnership with Shegs Communications Limited, which brought in seasoned security experts and consultants to lead the sessions.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Storyteller/CEO of Shegs Communications Ltd., Segun Adebowale noted the broader impact of the training, which he described as part of a larger initiative dubbed “Project Keep Kebbi Safe” is about building a legacy of security, resilience, and community empowerment.

“As our Local Government Chairmen become more equipped to manage security, our communities will feel safer, more connected, and more empowered. This is more than training—it’s a movement toward long-term security and community resilience,” Adebowale said.

He also assured that the stories of this progress will be amplified across the state, fostering a strong connection between citizens and their leaders.

“We are committed to ensuring that this narrative reaches every corner of Kebbi State. We will work tirelessly to amplify the voices of our leaders and the stories of our communities,” Adebowale added.

Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Affairs, Comrade Mohammed Lawwali Na’Allah who presented a paper on “The Role of Local Government in Nation-Building,” emphasized the importance of local authorities in driving national development.

He said that, “Local governments are crucial to nation-building. They translate national policies into actionable results at the grassroots, especially in areas like economic development and public services. Their success is key to sustainable and inclusive development.”

The training marks a significant milestone in Kebbi State’s commitment to modern, community-driven security and its dedication to empowering local leadership in safeguarding lives and property.
