KOMU: Bishop Okeke Inaugurates Amazing Grace Chaplaincy

The Anglican Bishop of Ideato Diocese, The Rt. Reverend Henry Okeke, has inaugurated the Amazing Grace Chaplaincy of Kingsley Ozumba (KO) Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ogboko, in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.

The inauguration service, which held at the University’s Senate Building, had the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ikechukwu N. S. Dozie, as the Chief host. The service, which was both apostolic and evangelical, also attracted the clergy and numerous Christian faithful.

Bishop Okeke, in his inspiring sermon, admonished the church and its worshipers to propagate ecumenism, foster Christian unity and devout selves Christ as tools for God’s divine service both in the University and in the outside world. Dedicating the new Chaplaincy, the Bishop also dedicated the Chaplain, Rev. Elvis Agokwe, to the service of Hod in the Chaplaincy.

He eulogised the Vice Chancellor, for the indomitable achievements, recorded thus far, at the university since assumption of office and prayed God to continue to bless and strengthen him for greater service to God and humanity.

The Vice Chancellor, in a swift remarks thanked God for His enabling grace and the reality of the day’s service, he also lauded the University Visitor; His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Governor, for his unflinching support to the young University. He also commended the Bishop for his prayers and visits to the University, especially for finding time to inaugurate the Amazing Grace Chaplaincy.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated the essence of the Chaplaincy, as an ecumenical worship centre for all Non-Catholics in Kingley Ozumba (KO) Mbadiwe University Ideato, and advised worshippers to imbibe and dwell in the fountain  grace and teachings as recorded in the Bible.

Rolling through the memory lane, he recalled the daunting challenges experienced at the beginning of his administration as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University vis-a-vis the resultant achievements.

He however, informed that on assumption of office in the institution, no single programme of the University was accredited but expressed excitement that over thirty (30) programmes of the institution have been accredited by the NUC, within three (3) years in office.

The programme according to him include key and frontline programmes:- Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Environmental Health Science, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Public Health, Architecture among others, emphasizing that the programmes opened the admission gateway and boosted the university population from slightly above one hundred in the first year to above nine hundred, in the third year admission.
