The Chairman of Aguiyi Ironsi International market, Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma, has snubbed the Mushin Local Government Area over the Council’s efforts to maintain peace in the market in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Mushin Local Government, which is the owner of the market, visited over series of petitions against Onyebinanma over the use of violence against the traders and plans to rig himself into power by threatening and intimidating known opposition in the market.

To prevent further crises in the market, the Council sent representatives to the market and a meeting was held with stakeholders over the lingering crises in the market and decisions were taken for the coming election.

Part of the decisions was the composition of electoral committee, which the Council directed that the executives should nominate four members while the candidates contesting for the election should nominate three members and the Council, which is the owner of the market, will bring two members to ensure transparency and peace during the election in the market.

However, after the Council representatives left, Chief Onyebinanma summoned a meeting and solely announced his cronies as members of the electoral committee, which he intended to use to rig the election and is now causing serious tension in the market.

Chief Onyebinanma, a.k.a Ikukuoma, has become so desperate after purportedly destroying the goodwill he had with the traders due to poor leadership and allegedly using violence by force of arms to retain power in the market.

Apart from facing some criminal allegations before the IGP over allegations of using arms to cause violence, harassment and intimidation of traders perceived as opponents in the market, he has as well been intimidating the traders through the monsters he created known as the Task Force in the market.

He was alleged to have resorted to intimidating and harassing known opponents and introduced the use of data base and fresh ID, which he used to disenfranchise his opponents.

Some of the traders have expressed concern over his conduct especially his latest decision to appoint electoral committee solely by himself in disregard to the directives of the Mushin local Government and the constitution of the market union.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma took the latest decision to snub the Council because he was advised by his cabals not to follow the directives of the Council because he has become so unpopular in the market and if election is conducted and it’s free and fair, he may likely lose the election and so he decided to ignore the Council.

Efforts to reach the Council Chairman to react over the decision of Onyebinanma proved abortive as the known phone number of the Council boss was not available.
