The alleged plans of the Chairman of Aguiyi Ironsi International Association, Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma, to rig the market election by singlehandedly appointing his cronies as members of the electoral committee have suffered serious setbacks.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government area, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, has canceled the purported electoral committee and stated that any electoral committee set up must be comprised the representatives of the stakeholders for free and fair elections in the market.

This was the outcome of the meeting held at the Council’s Secretariat in Mushin, which was attended by the traders, representatives from Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs in conjuction with the Ministry of the Environment over the leadership crisis in Aguiyi Ironsi Market concerning the election coming up sometime in January/ February 2025.

The amiable chairman, Hon Bamigboye, reiterated the Council’s earlier stand that for a transparent and peaceful election to take place devoid of violence, the parties shall have representatives in the electoral committee.

He further explained that Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma led executive shall bring four persons while Chief Kelechi Oputa, who is a chairmanship aspirant, will bring three persons and the Mushin Local Government, which is the owner of the market will bring two, making it a nine-man electoral committee.

Hon. Bamigboye further directed that the names shall be submitted to the Council’s representative while the Local Government Chairman will swear-in the electoral committee members.

The outcome of the meeting was accepted by both the traders, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Mushin Local Government, which threw the market into jubilation when the decision got to the traders in the market.

However, the decisions were said to have thrown Chief Onyebinanma and his supporters off balance because he has hoped that he will use his cronies to conduct the election, which had been predetermined by him to win.

Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma has been in the news for his negative conducts in the market since he discovered that if free and fair elections were to be conducted, he will automatically lose the election because of his poor and bad leadership style in the market. Thus, he resorted to use of force, intimidation and harassment of known opponents using the purported monsters he created in the market known as Task Force.
Some of the traders also expressed worries that the action of Chukwuma Onyebinanma and his cronies to disobey Mushin LG directives was a ploy to close the market because he felt he cannot win if there is free and fair election in the market.
