Lady, 21, Arraigned For Stealing Ladies Clothes Inside Market

A 21-year old lady, Barakat Ganiyu, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after she allegedly went to a shop and stole ladies clothes worth N1.7m belonging to a woman, Omotunde Ajiboye. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Barakat, has been arrested and charged for stealing under the Criminal law of the State.

 

The incident happened on 21st August, 2025, at Allen Avenue, Ikeja area of Lagos.

 

She was said to have stolen the clothes, was caught and handed over to the Police at Alausa Division for interrogation over her alleged conduct against the complainant.

 

After interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Barakat Ganiyu ‘F’ on the 21st of August, 2025 at about 0900hrs at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire with others at large to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Barakat Ganiyu ‘F’ on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal 21 pieces of ladies clothes valued N1,705,000.00 (One Million, Seven Hundred and Five Thousand Naira) property of one Omotunde Ajiboye ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and of Nigeria 2015. punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A.Owolabi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
