Lady, 35, Blinds Girl, 19, By Stabbing Her Eyes With Glass During Public Brawl

A 19-year old girl, Happiness Nkeze, has gone blind after she was attacked by a 35-year old lady, Joy Igbokwe, who allegedly used a glass to stab her eyes and damaged them completely during a public brawl in Lagos State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 42 Falana Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos.
The cause of the fight was not disclosed by the Police, who revealed that the injury was so serious to the extent that she was taken to the hospital and the doctors declared that the attack had caused permanent injury on the victim’s eyes, as such she cannot see with them again.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ejigbo Division and the suspect, Joy Igbokwe was arrested and detained at the station for attempted murder under the Criminal Laws of the State.
However,  the Police at Ejigbo Division later transferred the case to the SCID at Yaba for further investigation due to the nature of the alleged offence.
After rounds of interrogation at the SCID, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The prosecutor,  Inspector Kolade Tedunjaye, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the offence.
The Court ordered the remand of the defendant in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
