Lady, 39, Arraigned For Stabbing Rival On Abdomen During Public Brawl

A 39-year old lady, Akanbi Mary, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing her rival, Happiness Iyere, with a knife on her abdomen during a public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 6th Feburay, 2026, at Oyemekun Street, Ogba area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect had a disagreement with the victim over an undisclosed matter, which led to exchange of words and later degenerated to fighting. In the process, the suspect took a knife and stabbed the complainant on the left side of her abdomen.
She was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Police at Area G Command in Ogba, Lagos. The Police operatives moved into action, arrested the suspect and detained her at the Command for interrogation.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Akanbi Mary ‘F’ on 6th day Feburay, 2026 at about 1730hrs, at Oyemekun Street, Ogba Lagos State in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did assault one Happiness Iyere ‘F’ by inflicting injury by her left abdomen with a knife and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 245 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Akanbi Mary ‘F’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did attempt to commit murder by stabbing one Happiness Iyere ‘F’ below her left abdomen with a knife and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 230 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, granted her bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
