Lady, 39, Sent To Prison For Bolting Away With N10m Daily Contributions

A 39-year old lady, Uzoamaka Mbonu, has been arrested and charged for allegedly bolting away with daily contributors N10m in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged fraud was committed at Adeyemi Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where Uzoamaka was employed as a daily collector by one Chioma Madubom.
The suspect, Uzoamaka, was employed to be going to the owners different customers to collect money for their savings.
However, she was alleged to have collected the money from customers over a period to the tune of the said amount, bolted away and disconnected every communication to trace her.
The matter was reported to the Police, who moved into action and later arrested her. She was then detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
While being interrogated, she admitted to have collected some amount of the money from their customers but have spent the whole money as such she had no money to refund the owners.
The Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Utham, granted her bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 30th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
