Lady Smashes Rival’s Eye With Mop Stick During Public Brawl

A 25-year old Lady, Celine Obika, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly inflicting injury on the eye of her rival, MaryRose Igwilo, by using a mop stick to pierce her eye during a public brawl. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th October, 2024, at Osun Plaza,BBA, Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, over an undisclosed matter.

 

According to the Police, the suspect and the victim were known rivals in the market to the extent that their neighbours had tried to resolve the matter between them but they refused and kept away the real cause of their rivalry over a period.

 

On the particular day the incident happened, they were said to have had a disagreement, which led to exchange of words and in the process, the suspect allegedly used the mop stick and inflicted injury on the victim’s left eye.

 

She was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Police at Trade Fair Division. The operatives moved into action, arrested the suspect and detained her at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charge read:

That you, Celine Obika  ‘F’, on the 11th day of October, 2024 at about 1620hrs at Osun Plaza, BBA, Trade Fair complex, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did unlawfully inflict injury on one MaryRose Igwilo ‘f by using a mop stick on her left eye, which caused her grievous harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 245, Criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

She pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Uche Simeon, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. LKJ Layeni, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 29th November, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
