Lagos Grassroots Alliance Debuts With Massive Turnout, Sets Course For Statewide Grassroots Mobilisation

Posted on July 18, 2026

Over 4,000 supporters converge as APC leaders rally behind renewed grassroots movement to deepen voter mobilisation across Lagos.

The road to the 2027 general elections in Lagos received a major boost as one of the state’s prominent grassroots political mobilisers, Hon. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, officially unveiled the Lagos Grassroots Alliance (LGA)—a broad-based movement designed to strengthen community engagement, expand voter participation, and reinforce the grassroots structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The unveiling ceremony, held at the Victoria Garden Event Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, drew over 4,000 party faithful, youths, students, artisans, market leaders, Community Development Associations (CDAs), professionals, religious organisations, and political stakeholders, making it one of the largest grassroots political gatherings in recent months.

With the theme “2027 Elections: Waking the Giant Vote in Lagos,” the event was more than the launch of a political platform. It represented the unveiling of a coordinated grassroots mobilisation network aimed at reaching communities across every ward in Lagos State.

For many political observers, the event also marked another milestone in the political journey of Hon. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, whose name has become associated with grassroots mobilisation within the progressive movement.

Falana previously convened the Jide Sanwo-Olu Youth Movement, a youth-focused mobilisation structure that supported Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s successful 2019 governorship campaign. That experience established him as a recognised organiser within APC circles, particularly for engaging young people and community-based support groups.

The unveiling of the Lagos Grassroots Alliance signals an effort to build on that mobilisation experience by creating a broader coalition that brings together youths, women, professionals, artisans, market associations, religious bodies, and community leaders under one platform.

Addressing the gathering, Falana described the Alliance as a movement built on action rather than rhetoric.

“The Lagos Grassroots Alliance is committed to practical mobilisation, community engagement, voter education, and strengthening democratic participation. Our goal is to connect communities, inspire civic responsibility, and build a stronger Lagos through collective action.”

The impressive turnout attracted several APC leaders, including the party’s Lagos State Governorship Candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende.

Also in attendance were APC Deputy Governorship Candidate Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, Director-General of the Hamzat/Sonayon Campaign Organisation Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, APC Deputy State Chairman Hon. Moshood Mayegun, former APC chieftain Ogbeni Fuad Oki, Managing Director of LAGFERRY Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, presidential aide Moremi Ojudu, traditional rulers, youth organisations, and other party stakeholders.

Representing Dr. Hamzat, Hon. Ogunlende commended the initiative, describing it as a strategic platform capable of complementing the party’s grassroots engagement across Lagos.

Princess Sonayon-James praised the energy and enthusiasm displayed by young participants, noting that the large turnout reflected the growing commitment of the next generation to civic participation and grassroots politics.

In his remarks, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro urged members of the Alliance to intensify Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration and voter mobilisation, noting that Lagos continues to attract new residents while many young people attain voting age every year.

He stressed that expanding voter participation would be critical to the APC’s electoral strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political strategist and keynote speaker, Ogbeni Fuad Oki called for discipline, unity, and strategic grassroots organisation, urging support groups to focus on strengthening the party and delivering electoral success through coordinated mobilisation.

Speaking on Falana’s leadership, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, Managing Director of LAGFERRY, described him as an experienced grassroots organiser who has consistently demonstrated the ability to unite people around shared political objectives.

The Alliance also announced key appointments, including Hon. Musa Yahyah as Director of Mobilisation and Hon. Aminat Nana Osulale as Women Leader, reflecting its intention to build a broad organisational structure across Lagos State.

Operating under the slogan “One Lagos, Many Voices,” the Lagos Grassroots Alliance seeks to connect Community Development Associations, market associations, youth organisations, artisans, professionals, students, religious groups, and other community stakeholders through sustained engagement and civic participation.

With the successful launch and the broad participation recorded at the unveiling, the Lagos Grassroots Alliance has announced itself as a significant grassroots platform whose activities are expected to feature prominently in political mobilisation efforts across Lagos in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
