Lagos Set To Improve Capacity Of Emergency Responders

Posted on February 14, 2020

The Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, has reiterated the commitment of the State government to improving the capacity of first responders and safety agencies.

Bamgbose-Martins disclosed this during a visit to some of the agencies under the supervision of the Ministry, stressing that the present administration is poised to promote effective safety standards in its resolve to ensure that Lagos is livable for everyone.

Calling on the first responders to scale-up their performance, the Commissioner said, “Let’s not relent in our efforts to pursue our mandate which is the prevention, rescue and mitigation of emergency occurrences and ultimately the security of lives and property of residents in the State. Lagosians are counting on us and the clock is ticking, let’s give it our best shot”.

He assured the officers that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is unwavering in his resolve to make Lagos safe for all and acknowledged the role of the officers saddled with the responsibility of ensuring safety and emergency management in the State.

The Commissioner, therefore, enjoined all well-meaning individuals and organisations to partner with the government in its quest to ensure safety for all, saying that “Lagosians must embrace good safety culture in their day to day activities since safety is the responsibility of all.

“We all have to embrace proper safety culture to avoid unnecessary losses; most of the accidents and incidents our first responders have responded to, in recent times, are as a result of negligence or carelessness on the part of the people; we have to put an end to such”, he added.

While imploring Lagosians to immediately call the free toll numbers 112 and 767 in case of any emergency, the Commissioner revealed that emergency response agencies had been fully equipped to tackle critical situations in the State.
