Since Saturday when the maiden Lagos Sports Camp started, Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere has been a beehive of activities with children between ages 9 and 16 in their large number participating in the six days camping exercise.
A check at the stadium shows that the children are really having fun amidst learning the rudiments of sporting activities in Athletics,  Table-Tennis, Basketball, Taekwondo, Judo, Swimming, Squash and Volleyball.
According to the daily rosters carefully planned for the children, they used to start their day with aerobic activities after which they will go for their breakfast, then train before having their lunch and short siesta.

In the afternoon, they undergo entrepreneurial skills training in interlocking  and tiling, also in make up. They are also taken on leadership/mentorship training. In the evening, it is another round of sports training  before taking their dinner, while they end their day with watching movies.

P.M. EXPRESS understands that the Lagos Sports Summer Camp will end on Wednesday with a closing ceremony in the evening, while the children depart to their various home Thursday morning.

The Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafar had said that the camp was designed to introduce the chosen sports to interested students and to enable them commence the training to represent Lagos, and also Nigeria. The plan is to identify outstanding talents who will be selected for further coaching and mentoring.
“The camp is borne out of the need to create a conducive environment where kids come together to develop a sense of responsibility as they try new adventures away from home,” he said.
