Lagos SSG Charges Women To Speak Out On Abuse, Violence

Posted on February 14, 2020

The Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji has charged women to speak out against any form of violence and abuse rather than being ashamed and emotionally troubled for the rest of their lives.

She gave the charge through the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Mrs. Kemi Durosinmi-Etti, at the flag-off of an advocacy rally on the suitable emotional engagement of women tagged “Love Me Right” organised by the Made in Lagos Women Group at Alausa on Thursday.

She said the era of keeping quiet when raped or abused has been overtaken with awareness around the world, adding that many victims are now reporting to the appropriate authorities resulting in the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.

“Coming out openly on such matter will encourage other victims to speak up, thus preventing emotional stress and depression which could lead to other serious health issues”, the SSG stated.

While commending the group for a worthy initiative, especially on the eve of the Valentine’s Day celebration, Jaji enjoined young girls and ladies to be careful in celebrating the Day by not getting carried away with the opposite sex in order to avoid sexual harassment or rape.

She, therefore, advised women to love themselves more or equal to the way they love their spouses, children, family and friends.

The leader of the Made in Lagos Women, Mrs. Bose Joseph appreciated the SSG for her words of encouragement and participation in the rally, saying that the event was to sensitise womenfolk on the need to live a good life devoid of dejection as a result of violence or abuse from men.
