Lagos State Govt Highlights Investment Opportunities In Wastewater Sector

Posted on April 8, 2021

The Lagos State Government has highlighted the numerous investment opportunities available in the wastewater management sub-sector of the Lagos economy.

General Manager, Wastewater Management Office, Engr. Adebola M. Matanmi, stated the choices during a special interview broadcast on NTA-2, inviting interested members of the public to take advantage of the inherent potentials in the wastewater sector such as; Haulage of Fecal Sludge, Consultancy Services, Facility Management, Rehabilitation, Operate and Transfer (ROT) of the existing public treatment plants, Engineering, Procurement and Contracting (EPC), and Provision of Wastewater Plant to the designated area through Design, Built, Operate and Transfer (DBOT), among others.

He went further to state that the office is planning additional 10-new Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), through private sector participation, stressing that the decentralisation of WWTPs is the best option for the State because a centralisation will make access difficult in a built-up society like Lagos.

According to him, apart from accessibility and the huge financial cost of a centralised Wastewater Plant in a built-up society, there are possible litigations that may arise from demolition that may go with such venture, which may also delay the execution of the project and achievements of the desired objectives.

While informing that the office is packaging a well-detailed publication to guide prospective investors on the various opportunities in the sector, Engr. Matanmi said there is a guaranteed return on investment in view of the high population of Lagos State.
