Lagos State Govt Reaffirms Commitment To Coastal Investment Growth 

The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to reviving and strengthening the tourism sector through strategic infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning the State as Africa’s leading destination for leisure and cultural experiences.

Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, disclosed this on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the Chief Executive Officer of AKWAABA Africa Travel Market, Ambassador Ikechi Uko, to her office in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to her, the State Government has embarked on the construction of 68-bed chalets in Badagry, a major investment expected to enhance the area’s hospitality offerings and attract both local and international tourists.

“These significant projects are a way to reposition Lagos as Africa’s leading destination for tourism and leisure. The chalets will boost Badagry’s potential and brighten the image of Lagos tourism,” Benson-Awoyinka stated.

The Commissioner noted that despite Lagos being richly endowed with natural and cultural attractions, many residents remain unaware of these treasures.

She therefore, encouraged residents to explore the State and discover the hidden gems within their environment.

Highlighting this year’s World Tourism Day celebration at Tarkwa Bay Beach, Benson-Awoyinka explained that the choice of venue reflects the Ministry’s renewed focus on coastal tourism, and beach-related investment opportunities. “Our focus is shifting to the State’s rich beaches with bustling markets and coastal investment growth,” she said.

In his remarks, Ambassador Uko commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach to tourism development, particularly the renewed attention to beach tourism. He described the initiative as a forward-looking step that would further strengthen Lagos’ appeal as a coastal tourism hub.

He applauded the Commissioner’s visit to Tarkwa Bay Beach and welcomed the idea of rejuvenating natural attractions for future use.

Uko also expressed readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to drive sustainable growth in the sector.
