Lagos Table Tennis Association Endorses Somolu U-16 Tourney

Lagos State Table Tennis Association has endorsed Somolu Under-16 championship, an initiative of Somolu Newspaper, aimed at building a topflight of table tennis champions through grassroots sports competition both at the primary and secondary school level.

Mr Femi Sokoya, the chairman of the association, gave the endorsement at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos recently, noting that Somolu Newspaper is undertaking such a lofty and premium sporting project in the state, which maiden event will take place between November 21st to 22nd, 2019.

He stressed, “We are very excited at the project because it will help to develop youths at the grassroots level in a disciplined manner and create awareness among students at the local government for the project and we’re looking forward to it”.

He said, “Somolu Under-16 table tennis is a very fantastic idea and that the association is interested in as the activities will go a long way to expose the beneficiary students to proper mentoring and counselling”.

The 2 days event will be hosting over 10 public schools with about 100 students competing within Somolu local government areas of Lagos State in the maiden event. The competition which will take place at the Agunbiade table tennis indoor sports hall in Somolu will have guests from the sports industry, academics as well as the business world in attendance.

Meanwhile, Somolu Newspaper Under-16 table tennis championship is reaching an enviable height as the big wigs in Somolu politics are throwing their weight behind the sporting event.

Feelers from the organisers has it that the council boss of Somolu local government, Hon. Abdul Hameed Salawudeen Dullar had shown interest and promised to grace the occasion and give his supports when and where necessary which will go along way in adding glamour to the event.

Hon. Dullar who has been up and doing to ensure the youths in the community get dividends of democracy recently hosted Hon. Dullar Kids cup a football competition for the pupils in primary schools in the Somolu community

In the same vein, Somolu House Assembly member and chairman House Committee on Finance, Hon. Emmanuel Rotimi Olowo has also extended his philanthropist gesture in support of the sporting event meant to discover talents from the public schools that abound in Somolu community.

Hon. Rotimi Olowo popularly known as E-Money by his admirer is the Grand Host of the 2-days event. Incidentally, Hon. Rotimi Olowo is an ardent supporter of Arsenal football club of England.

As if that is not enough, the son of business mogul and philanthropist, chief Dewale Teluwo, Hon. Bolaji Teluwo who is a Special Adviser to Hon. Dullar in his usual manner has promised to contribute to the success of the event in his own little way.

The 2-day sporting event no doubt will be a talk of the town as top government functionaries, scholars, business men and women alike will be in attendance.
