Lagos U-20 Volleyball Clubs Championship: Ikorodu Girls Battle Yabatech In Female Final

The 2025 Lagos Under-20 Volleyball Clubs Championship is in full swing at the Volleyball Court of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, with no fewer than 13 clubs vying for honours.

As the competition reaches its climax, Ikorodu Girls and Yabatech Club will contend for the title in the final of the female category

Ikorodu Girls demonstrated their dominance early on, making a strong statement with a commanding 2-0 (25-6, 25-7) victory over CVS in their opening match. They continued their winning streak with another convincing 2-0 (25-16, 25-8) win against Epe, showcasing their experience, having previously represented Lagos at the national development Games in Delta State.

In the final, Ikorodu Girls will face Yabatech Club, the top team from Group B, in what promises to be an exciting showdown. With the high-energy performances seen so far, the championship is set for a thrilling conclusion.

Meanwhile, the boys’ semi-finals will feature an intense battle between Abesan and Ketu, both of whom maintained an impressive rhythm throughout the first phase. Ikorodu l following it perfect wins with 6-points will face Ikorodu ll second runners in group A in the second semi-finals.

Ikorodu Girls captain, Gilbert Diamond Amarachi expressed her excitement about competing in a tournament of this magnitude.

“I’m happy to be part of this championship as it has improved my game. I’m looking forward to playing for the national team and beyond,” Amarachi said.

Having represented Lagos at the last National Youth Games, the middle player believes the experience has prepared her for the U-20 championship, strengthening her ambition to advance to the national level.

Board member of Lagos State Volleyball Association, Mrs.Olaitan Ayileka commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to sports development. She highlighted the championship’s significance, emphasizing its role in discovering young talents, providing an enabling environment for volleyball players to hone their skills, and building a formidable team that can compete at higher levels.

Similarly, Christopher Amata, Head Coach of the Lagos State Handball Association, praised the Lagos State Sports Commission for organizing the tournament. He noted that such competitions serve as a stepping stone for young athletes and help prepare them for the upcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

“Lagos is a state that breeds talent, and this initiative further strengthens its commitment to developing future stars who will bring glory to the state and beyond,” Amata said.

With Lagos continuing to create opportunities for young talents to showcase their skills, the state remains at the forefront of sports development.
