Lagos West: Senator Adeola Trains & Empowers 720 Young Men & Women In Solar Energy

The Chairman of Senate Committee on Finance and Senator-Elect for Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), has facilitated the training and empowerment of 720 young men and women in different aspects of solar energy.
The event, which witnessed the graduation and empowerment ceremony, took place on Friday 17th March, 2023, at Academy Guest House, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
At the training programme, which was conducted in a period of 2 weeks, selected participants were taught different aspects in the solar/energy space based on their areas of interest in order to further in energy research and studies.
The Director General of the Energy Commision of Nigeria, ably represented by Dr Umar Goje, who incidentally is also the brain behind the layout of the courses for the training programme, expressed his happiness at seeing the participants undertake the courses, which will definitely take them places in the near future.
Dr Goje heaped praises on Senator Adeola for having the best interest of his constituents at heart. He encouraged the participants to make maximum use of the knowledge acquired during the training sessions.
Babatunde Osho, one of the facilitators, also commended Senator Adeola for the gesture towards his teeming constituents without partial selection or knowing any of the participants.
He charged the participants never to consider selling any of the items they received as it would defeat the good intentions of the Distinguished Senator.
While appreciating the respected lawmaker for making the training possible, the participants, represented by Ewatomi and Olumide Amisu, expressed their joy at being offered the opportunity to be part of the training. They promised to maximize the opportunity to the fullest while promising that in no time they will be shining lights to other young people across the country.
The host, Senator Solomon Adeola, who was duly represented by the Campaign Director General, Barr. Babatunde Labelle Raj, used the opportunity the event afforded to charge the participants on the need for an alternative source of generating electricity, which is cheap, reliable and efficient. He highlighted that the need for the training cannot be over emphasis as it will also contribute to the country’s development.
Just like the other speakers, he told the participants not to sell any of the items and to endeavour to put into good use all they were taught during the training sessions. Senator Adeola, though a Senator-Elect for Ogun West Senatorial District, promised to continue to offer quality representation to Lagos West Senatorial District until the month of June.
The following were the training areas:
- Conversion of waste to energy resources for wealth creation and socio-economic development
- Training on underground water exploration/detection: used in borehole drilling skills using PQWT s-300n water detection machine
- Design, installation and management of solar water heater for residential and commercial uses towards wealth creation
- Skills on solar products installation, maintenance and marketing for wealth creation
- Design of on-grid solar PV systems, up to 100KWP for residential and small commercial roof-top applications for wealth creation
- Design of on-grid solar PV systems, up to 100kwp for residential and small commercial roof-top applications for the drying of agricultural products
- Training on the design and fabrication of portable solar power generation for wealth creation
- Design, installation and management of on-grid solar pv systems, up to 100kwp for residential and small commercial roof-top applications for wealth creation
- Basic skills on writing solar business proposals and the utilization of solar energy and its management
High point of the event was the presentation of the equipment to the participants, where each person was provided with safety tools, training Certificate, field Engineering Tool Kits worth about N500, 000 and N100, 000 Start up fund to begin their solar design workshop and business.
