Lagos Woman Remanded In Kirikiri For Allegedly Attacking Police Officer At Area G Station, Ogba

A 45-year-old woman, Abiodun Esther, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a serving female police inspector at the Area G Police Command, Ogba, Lagos State.

The defendant was arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs. O. Kasunmu, following a charge filed by the Commissioner of Police.

Her arraignment followed an incident that reportedly occurred on August 26, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m. within the premises of the Area G Police Command, Ogba, in the Ikeja Magisterial District.

According to the charge sheet marked 140/15/10/26, the prosecution alleged that Abiodun Esther unlawfully assaulted one Woman Inspector Foluke Ologun, with AP Number 288084, while the officer was performing her lawful duty.

The prosecutor, SP Phillip Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant allegedly pushed the inspector and forcefully dragged one Abiodun Daniel from her custody inside the police station.

The court was informed that Inspector Ologun was handling a sensitive case of defilement at the time the alleged assault took place.

The single-count charge states that the defendant did seriously assault the officer by pushing her and dragging the suspect forcefully from her inside the premises of the Area G Command.

The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 174 (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prohibits assault on law enforcement officers.

When the charge was read to her, her plea was taken by the court.

SP Ademigbuji applied for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant pending trial, stressing the seriousness of attacking an officer on duty.

In her ruling, Magistrate Mrs. O. Kasunmu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties.

The magistrate ordered that the two sureties must show credible evidence of means of livelihood and provide proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She further directed that the defendant be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri Town, pending the perfection of her bail conditions.

The court adjourned the matter for further hearing to enable the prosecution to present its witnesses.

Assault on a police officer is treated as a grave offence under Lagos law, as it obstructs justice and undermines law enforcement operations.

Police authorities have repeatedly warned members of the public to desist from interfering with police investigations, particularly in sensitive cases involving minors.

Legal experts note that anyone found guilty under Section 174 risks imprisonment, as the law is designed to protect officers in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, the defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

The matter is expected to continue with the testimony of the nominal complainant, W/Insp Foluke Ologun, and other prosecution witnesses.
