In a recent address by the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, he unequivocally announced that in the month of June 2022, Imo State raked in internally generated revenue (IGR) totalling N1.6 billion.
According to the governor, that was the highest IGR ever realized in any single month, since the creation of Imo State in 1976.
In the same address, the wonderful, performing governor, also declared that he wants to win elections based on his achievements and on nothing else. He further asserted that his second tenure will be predicated on his achievements.
Talking about achievements, its no longer in doubt or controversial that Governor Uzodimma has been a proven achiever in office as the governor of Imo State.
Besides the unprecedented very high IGR of N1.6 billion in one month in the State, Governor Uzodimma’s achievements are sector by sector achievements. No sector is lacking or lagging!
It’ll be an overflog to keep highlighting, listing and publishing Governor Uzodimma’s increasing achievements in the civil service sector, road sector, health sector, education sector, agriculture sector, environment sector, business and economy sector, industry sector, youth and sports sector, security sector, and indeed all other sectors.
What interests this short essay is the zeal and enthusiasm, optimism and resilience with which Governor Uzodimma goes about the delivery of good leadership and good governance to Imo people.
The governor’s discipline and demeanour, verve and vivacity, love and loyalty, humility and humanity in the discharge of his duties and responsibilities to Ndimo, all have turned in objects of inspiration and motivation for adventurous citizens in the State.
At the very outset of his assumption of office, Governor Uzodimma was ushered in to the menace of the Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
With his established positivism, optimism and resilience, the governor tackled Covid-19 frontally, and came out successful in his war against Covid-19.
While literally recuperating from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the governor was visited with dare-devil sponsored strange insecurity.
He took up the challenge and deployed his number six and ran to Federal Government for help, from where he knew cometh help under the circumstance of the unknown gunmen.
After about one year of the eruption of the activities of the unknown gunmen, the combined force of the army and police stemmed the tide and restored safety, security and peace to lives and property in the State by neutralizing the marauders.
The attacks by the unknown gunmen began some time in October 2020. Every honest and sincere person in Imo State will confirm that as it is now in 2022 wasn’t as it was in the beginning.
Things have changed for the better. It’s not yet 100%, but truly things have remarkably changed in the security sector of the State.
Governor Uzodimma is an unrepentant optimist and realist. His resilience level in the face of challenges is superlative. He goes tough when the going gets tough and even rough. No retreat, no surrender!
On the very problematic issue of terrible roads in Imo State, which he inherited from his predecessors, Governor Uzodimma boldly and courageously started the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads in the State.
In his first 30 months in office, roads in the State have received a genuine touch of real construction and reconstruction. In short, Imo roads have been recovered.
That doesn’t mean that all of the over 5000 motorable roads across the State have been constructed. No!
Rather, it means that Imo people now enjoy nice driving on roads that are mostly used by all people of the State.
Driving within Owerri capital city has never been such a pleasant experience. Driving on Orlu-Owerri Road and Okigwe-Owerri Road has never been as  sweet as it is now under the watch of Governor Uzodimma.
By the time the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Road and the Orlu-Akokwa Road are constructed in the next few months, an indelible record of great road construction would have been set by Governor Uzodimma in the history of the State.
That’s more so when he has also embarked on the construction of 135km of rural roads, with each LGA equitably having 5km of its roads constructed or reconstructed.
At a planned rate of 135km rural road per year and 5km per LGA per year, within the one full year left in the governor’s first term, another set of 135km of rural roads statewide and 5km of LGA rural roads would be achieved by construction.
What that means is that across the State, 270km of rural roads at 10km per LGA would have been constructed in two years.
By extension and extrapolation, within the four years of Governor Uzodimma’s second term, a total of  540km of rural roads would be constructed statewide, with each LGA getting 20km of roads constructed.
Add that to the 270km of rural roads constructed in the first term and you will have 810km of rural roads constructed statewide. That’s the real audacity of Hope!
As already hinted earlier, the achievements by Governor Uzodimma cut across all sectors, but the roads are where he drummed his best of signature projects. Imo roads are now sweet!
It takes the big heart of a people-oriented leader in executive position to bother about the welfare and well-being of the people and provide people-oriented leadership, with people-oriented plans, policies, programmes and projects. Governor Uzodimma is a people-oriented leader.
Therefore, when he said that he wants to be judged by his achievements he gave a very big challenge to himself and to the people of Imo State.
He meant that he’s quite aware and conscious of what he’s doing in the State for the overall good of the people of Imo State. He challenged anybody to contradict and controvert his claims to having made tremendous achievements since his assumption of office in 2020.
It’s doubtful whether anybody will accept the herculean challenge to counteract the claims of the governor on his verifiable achievements in his first term.
That must be reason why Governor Uzodimma has hinged his unchallengeable re-election for second term on his visible achievements across the State.
As the governor approaches the last lap of his first term and prepares to commence his second term, his dogged spirit of optimism and resilience in the face of challenges, with which he rapidly transformed Imo State with growth and development in all sectors in the first term, should be imbibed  by Ndimo, particularly the greatest Imo youths who are the greatest leaders of tomorrow.
There’s no doubt that with the same spirit of great achievements and accomplishments, Governor Uzodimma’s second term will see a better and greater Imo State of the collective dreams of Imo people. So help Imo, God!
By God’s grace, Imo State is being rehabilitated, reconstructed and recovered by Governor Uzodimma!
