Leadership Of Igbo Speaking Community Lagos Disowns Certificate Of Recognition For Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu

The leadership of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State has publicly disowned unsigned certificate purporting to recognize Igwe Frederick N. Nwajiagu as Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu of Lagos State. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the document, dated 10th April,2026 and bearing the community’s name, motto “Unity is Strength,” and address at No. 6 Anjorin Street, Lawanson, Surulere, was described by the leadership as fake, unauthorized, and issued without due process.

In a statement, the community said that the certificate, which was not duly signed by the leadership, did not originate from its National Headquarters and did not carry the approval of the duly elected executive and Board of Trustees.

The leadership emphasized that only the recognized structure of the Igbo Speaking Community can confer or validate such traditional titles.

The certificate in question lists the Corporate Affairs Commission number 11,534 and carries the title “Ezeship Certificate,” naming Igwe Frederick N. Nwajagu, JP, as Igwe Onataludikemma and Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu Lagos State. The leadership said this was an attempt to mislead the public and create confusion among Ndigbo in Lagos.

The President of the community, Chief Sunday Udeh, said the body remains committed to peace and unity among Igbo residents in Lagos and would not allow individuals to exploit the community’s name for personal recognition.

He added that the community’s Board of Trustees and executive council had not met, deliberated, or approved any such recognition for the title of Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu in Lagos State.

The leadership also warned members of the public, traditional institutions, and government agencies to disregard the certificate and treat it as null and void. It urged anyone approached with the document to report the matter to the community’s secretariat.

Chief Udeh noted that the Igbo Speaking Community had worked hard to restore stability after years of internal crisis and would not tolerate actions that undermine that progress.

He reiterated that the only recognized leadership of Ndigbo in Lagos operates under the current executive led by him.

The community called on Ndigbo in Lagos to remain law-abiding, support the elected executives, and focus on initiatives that promote cultural identity, welfare, and unity rather than divisive claims to traditional titles.
