“My lord, I agree that we go our different ways. She is a harlot and has no shame. I caught her with a man a few years back and reported her to her family members and our children. Rather than being remorseful, she went deep into the relationship with this man until he impregnated her.”
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the submission of a man, Jamiu, against his wife, Rakiah, when he filed a divorce suit before the Court seeking for the dissolution of their marriage in Oyo State.
Consequently, the Grade  A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, dissolved the union between the couple,  Rakiah and Jamiu, on the accounts of neglect, battery and domestic violence.
The embattled Rakiah also requested an order restraining Jamiu from threatening and interfering with her private life and entreated the Court for their children’s custody and further pleaded that her husband be made responsible for their welfare.
However, Jamiu denied all the allegations brought against him by the wife but agreed for the divorce so that the parties will go their separate ways.
Rekiah, in her testimony, said:
”My husband and I went into marriage without carrying out the expected marital rites. We held no marriage ceremony, and he did not pay my bride price. My husband changed from the way I used to know him when we were dating. He failed to give me and our children the needed attention”.
“He hardly met our needs and never showed interest in our wellbeing. My husband and I fought on a regular basis because of his lackadaisical attitude towards us. Our neighbours were always mediating in our differences.”
“He is violent and always hits me with any dangerous object within his reach when fighting with me. The scars on my body tell this story. I packed my belongings and moved out of his house when it was obvious he would kill me.”
“My lord, I pray that the Court put an end to our relationship.
“I also plead for our children’s custody because my husband is indifferent to their wellbeing. I further entreat the Court to restrain him from threatening and interfering with my private life.”
Jamiu responded, “My lord, I agree that we go our different ways. She is a harlot and has no shame. I caught her with a man a few years back and reported her to her family members and our children. Rather than being remorseful, she went deep into the relationship with this man until he impregnated her. I was not at home when she became pregnant, so the pregnancy could not have been mine. She put to bed a few months after she moved out of my house”.
The Court President, S.M. Akintayo, after she had heard both parties and noted that the relationship had broken down,  asked the parties to go their separate ways because there was no marriage between the parties to be dissolved.
