Let’s Look Inwards, Lagos PMAN Chief, Kabiyesi Olomide, Urges Members

Posted on June 22, 2017

The newly reelected Governor General of Lagos State chapter of Performing Musicians Employers Association (PMAN), Sir Kareem Ayinde Olomide Osoba, has appealed to members to look inwards so as to come out with ideas that could move the union forward.

In an interview shortly after his reelection, Osoba lamented that for close to five years, the association seemed to be living on borrowed time as organisations and individuals refused to contribute to the well being of the union.

“During this period, the union is commonly linked with controversies bordering on financial misappropriation, vendetta, greed, corruption, internal wrangling, power tussle and every sleuth that can be associated with a mad house,” he recalled.

The top Fuji musician popularly known as Kabiyesi, however, added that what looked like an endless battle ended recently when Mr. Kingston Okoro became the official President of the union.

“Now that peace has finally been restored in the union especially at the national level, our administration has hit the ground running, finding more about ideals that interest young people in music making and what support such people need so that structures can be designed to serve them in that purpose,” he expressed.

The Lagos PMAN Chief promised also that the union hopes to make it easier for music promoters, corporate organisations and private individuals to contribute to music and entertainment sectors of the economy as well as create new opportunities for all musicians in Lagos State in order to make and promote their own music which will be complement by effective copyright education and support for live performances, among other things.

Osoba thanked members for giving him and other elected members their mandate and also urged them to support him in his bid to transform the union.

The peaceful election which was conducted by officials of Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), also produced Alhaji Fatai Tijani Bulalah as First Vice Chairman; Mrs. Adeola Abigail Ogunmola, Second Vice Chairman and Mrs. Blessing Ayobami Odejimi, Treasurer. Others are Mr. Tony Mike Edozie, Public Relations Officer; Mr. Segun Gbenro, Welfare Officer 1 and Mrs. Janet Module Solarin, Welfare Officer 2.
