Lioness, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi Takes A Walk

Posted on October 27, 2020

In the animal kingdom, it’s not debatable to contest who is the King of the jungle from this world and beyond. Researchers come to conclusion that the Lion is the King in the jungle for its prowess and gallantry beyond the expectations of other animals.

Though, it shows merciless traits when others become prey being a carnivorous animal and very dangerously categorized in the cat family –  the bravest, decisive, gallantry among the animals in the kingdom – very unusual traits.

Lions are the Kings of the Jungle thanks to their impressive mane, fearlessness, power and strength. Even with all the powerful traits, it is sad to say that they are on the endangered species list.

There are only two animals on the planet that God identified himself with. The first one is the eagle and the second one is the lion, both of them are the Kings of their domain.

The eagle is the king of the birds and the lion is the king of the jungle. But let’s talk a little bit about the lion. The lion has what I call “the spirit of leadership”. In this case, leadership referring to “attitude”. A leader has an attitude that makes him or her different from followers.
For me, the lion is a great source of encouragement. The lion is not the heaviest animal in the jungle. The lion is not largest animal in the jungle. The lion is not the most beautiful animal in the jungle. The lion is not the smartest animal in the jungle. The lion is not the tallest animal in the jungle but when he shows up, they all run away.

What makes the lion different from everyone else? The lion has a different attitude that makes every animal afraid of it. The elephant respects the lion. The giraffe respects the lion and so on.

What makes these massive animals respect such a small cat? The attitude is the difference. For example, a lion will see an elephant and one word that comes to its mind “food” “I can eat this thing” and he acts the way he thinks.

Here’s another Amazing story; the elephant is bigger, stronger, smarter and more powerful but when he sees the lion one word that comes to his mind “predator” “this beast can eat me” and he tries to run away.

To sum up, attitude is the product of belief. You cannot have an attitude beyond your belief, so your attitude comes from your belief system. The lion is the king because of what he believes about itself.

Having said the above, it is not a misnomer that in human analogy some of us possess this character that distinguishes and forms a niche in us. Though, an understudy of certain people in the line of duty is a hobby to this writer. I called one distinguished Nigerian in the Police circle, “nemesis of the underworld” and they know it. Today, the lion I found is in the jungle but the lion has taken a walk.

According to Professor Wole Soyinka  in “The Trials Of Brother Jero” “I am a prophet by birth and inclination… There are prophets and there are prophets”. The sharp line here is the uniqueness and distinct personality. What this writer wants to deduce here is the distinct attitude of this Police officer, who caught the eagle eyes of this media  organization from her first day in office on 25th July, 2018, when she was tentatively having a fun resumption party by men and women of the Ejigbo Police Division under the Lagos State Police Command.

A distress call came while in a festive mood that cultists were on rampage and they were to strike another rival group. That was the trend and these outlawed groups were jubilant terrorists as the area has been reputed for and it had become the norm with such headlines in the news “loss of human lives and some wounded”. a Arrests were hardly made as they would have retired into their shell for another strike.

On this particular date with fate and destiny, this full blooded Ijebu lady, who doubled as the Division Police Officer, jettisoned her welcoming party and took the fight to the cultists domain.

How she got the security architecture of the cultists den remained a misery till date. She rounded up over forty cultists on the said day and drove them down to the then Commissioner Of Police Lagos State, CP Edgar Imohinmi, for persecution. That singular display of gallantry from a welcoming party to the coven of cultists earned her the respect of a promising policing under her watch.

She hardly disappointed in the discharge of Police duties with her no nonsense stance against social vices such as rape, gender inequality, domestic violence among others. Like a caring lion to the young lion, she exercised thorough investigation into child abuses and ensured justice was served.
The slogan, “Say No To Rape” sunk deep into her consciousness and the turnout of rape cases in her jurisdiction filled news portals as she ensured such suspects faced the full wrath of the law. She ensured serial rapists were not only dealt with but served prison terms to serve as deterrent to others.

It is on record that under her watch and supervision the Police Division was given a face lift due to her public relations with members of the public. The edifice was commissioned by the Compol Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, to the delight of all on the 6th October, 2020.

The recent #EndSARS protests engulfed a lot of Police Divisions. It is also on record that as she was running on a last day in office for a further challenge, she did not relent. While in office, as fate and destiny behold, this writer was with her when she noticed some young men from her window blind. She quickly identified them as OPC members loyal to Aare Onakakanfo Gani Adams in the area. She moved speedily to address them: …”My people, my people, this is your Division and you own it; it does not belong to me. It is your property. I urge that you guard it jealously. Or will you encourage it to be burnt down? They all chorused,  No!”
She knew they loved her, she reached out to the back pocket of her fitted jeans trouser without counting and doled out something for sachet water to the OPC Leader of the area and she drove off.

The next day, news reports had the burning of Igando and Ikotun Police Divisions by hoodlums while the OPC kept vigil with Ejigbo Police Officers on ground in order to repel the raving hoodlums when they came calling. That’s Police Relations and Community Policing at its peak! A strategy that works!
In Strategic studies, it is great prowess to understand the psyche of the people. Local policing must understand the local people. It must be friendly with the environment and not with the emperor-like attitude. The news filtered that all Police Stations were prime targets but Ejigbo people stood their ground and theirs was spared all due to what public relations can do in time of crisis or conflicts.

The loss of Ejigbo People is the gain of NPTF as the lion has been identified in the jungle to lead the Public Relations Department of the newly formed NPTF Chaired by former Inspector General Of Police Suleiman Abba to oversee the Nigerian Police Reforms as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari, an aftermath of #EndSARS protests.

The Nigeria Police Force is blessed with very good officers if given the right environment. She’s just one of the lions in the jungle. She’s not the smartest, not the tallest, not the largest, not the most beautiful but she’s brave, precise, endowed with leadership skills, impressive, fearless, powerful, strong, a predator to criminals and enemies of state.

Welcome to the new challenge Federal Chief as you take a walk to the Federal Capital Territory, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi!
