LUDI Creates Awareness For Car Free Day
Posted on September 22, 2025
Lagos Urban Development Initiative, LUDI, while advocating for a more inclusive, livable and sustainable Lagos, has created huge awareness for the Car Free Day.

Car Free Days around the world are hosted on the 22nd of September. Motorists are encouraged to give up their cars and streets are turned into safe public spaces, with a main street/road closed to vehicular traffic. Car Free Days are proven to be a way of suspending reality and showing us a glimpse of an alternative future for streets.

To create the awareness, LUDI organised workshop for young artists and designers across locations in Lagos. The artists and designers learnt how their work can be used as an advocacy tool and how collaboration can help to drive inclusion and sustainability like the implementation of non-motorized transport infrastructure and gender-sensitive public spaces.

According to LUDI, it was curated to raise awareness of the need for more NMT infrastructure and call for reforms on public transport modes and infrastructure to be more accessible, safe and comfortable.

In this year’s edition, LUDI partnered with reputable organisations like LAMATA, Cycology, Urban Better, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, African Cycling Foundation, Simba Planet, Shuttlers, and Cycle Care.
