Man, 20, Arraigned For Vandalizing Agege Flyover Bridge Irons For Scraps

A 20-year old man, Yusuf Hamza, has landed in trouble for allegedly vandalizing irons on Agege flyover bridge belonging to Lagos State Government and cutting off two partitions of iron barricades used to guard the bridge valued at N2m to sell as scraps.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 2nd of April, 2025 at about 2202hrs at Pen-Cinema on top of the bridge in the Agege area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect and others at large went on top of the bridge and cut the two iron barricades used to guard the bridge. And having successfully done so, they carried them that night before they escaped.
However, the Police at Pen Cinema Division, who were on routine duty in the area saw them. They apprehended the suspect while his accomplices managed to escape. He was detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that they wanted to sell them as scrap irons to buyers.
The Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That You, Yusuf Hamza and others at large on 2nd day of April, 2025 at about 2202hrs at Pen-Cinema on top of the bridge, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial district, did conspire together among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Yusuf Hamza and others at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal two partitions of iron barricade used to guard the bridge valued N2,000,000=K ‘Two Million Naira only, property of Lagos State Government and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287(5)(c) of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Udugbo Innocent, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Popoola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
