A 20-year old man, Olarewaju Mensah, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly sneaking into a cold room factory, removing compressors from the deep freezers and causing huge damages to the owner.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at night on 10th July, 2023, at Adams Estate, Ikotun area of Lagos, where the factory is located.
According to the Police, the suspect sneaked into the factory at night and instead of stealing frozen meat and fishes stored inside the cold room deep freezers, he removed the compressors, causing the owner, Folashade Oyeshida, to incure huge losses.
However, he ran out of luck while he tried to escape with the compressors he had already removed from the deep freezers as he was accosted and held by security guards, who interrogated him over suspicion he may have carted the items away by that time of night.
While being interrogated, he confessed and was handed over to the Police at Ikotun Division for more interrogation and there he confessed to have sneaked into the factory and stolen the items.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for stealing the items worth N120,000.
He pleaded guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded guilty to enable him to present the facts of the matter so that he will be sentenced accordingly.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will be brought to Court for facts and sentence since he pleaded guilty before the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 14th August, 2023, for the prosecutor to present the facts of the matter so that he will be sentenced accordingly.
