A 20-year old man, Auval Abdulrasheed, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing cables, which supplied light to the Nigerian Police College and throwing the place into temporary darkness.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 10th October, 2023, at the Traffic Training School section of the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to Police sources, the suspect, Abdulrasheed, went to the place, cut off the cables and escaped. When power supply was restored to the place, it was discovered that the cables, which should supply light had been stolen.
It was a surprise to many who heard about the incident, how the suspect managed to steal the cables despite the presence of security guards in the place.
The alleged theft was reported to the Police at Ikeja Division, who moved into action and eventually arrested the suspect, Abdulrasheed. He was then detained at the station for interrogation over the stolen cables.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for stealing.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Rachael Williams, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. F.O. Ameen, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood, tax payment and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
