Man, 20, Arrested At Lagos Court For Stealing Exhibits

The vigilant private security men attached to the Lagos State High Court on Igbosere Road, Lagos, have arrested a suspected thief who scaled the Court’s fence to steal six baking plates, exhibits of the court.
A security source told our correspondent that the arrest of the suspect, Noheem Adegbola, 20, a resident of 34, Hawley Street, Lafiaji, Lagos Island was made possible by the Operation Manager of Smartcheck Security Services, a private firm engaged to secure the court, Mr Oscar Itefa who led two of his men, Abubakar Musa and Olubolu Adekola to arrest the suspect.
The source said the security men swooped on the suspect while he was stealing the exhibits at about 2:30am and tied him down.
Itefa sent a distress call to the Police at the Lion Building division, Lagos Island, who arrived the scene to pick the suspect and took him to the station.
Items allegedly recovered from the suspect were those six baking plates.
After investigation by SGT Sasere Kazeem and his team, the suspect was charged before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s court on a one count of stealing at the Lagos high court.
Police Counsel, Hafsat Ajibode told the court that the accused committed the offense on 27 August, 2019 at about 2:30am by scaling the court’s fence and entered the premises to steal the baking plates, exhibits of the Lagos High court and the security men on duty caught him before he could escape.
She said the Offence was punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the count charge and Magistrate, I.B Bakare granted him bail and adjourned the matter.
Bakare ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Prison till he perfected the bail condition.
