A 20-year old man, Sunday Okonkwo, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly engaging a 16-year old girl in sex after fondling her breasts, getting her confused and unable to resist it.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Okonkwo, has been arrested and charged for defilement.

The incident happened at Abalawa Amikanle area of  Alagbado, Lagos, where they reside.

According to the Police, the suspect allegedly lured the victim into an apartment, engaged her in romance by  touching her breasts and she became confused before he engaged her in the act.

However, the whole act got exposed after the victim revealed what happened to her parents and the matter was reported to the Police at Alagbado Division. The suspect was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the alleged conduct.

During the interrogation, he reportedly admitted to have done so but with her consent. But the Police found him culpable because the victim is still a minor under the law.

He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for defilement and indecent treatment of a child under the Criminal law of the State.

His alleged conduct attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if found guilty before the Court.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered that he should be remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and  directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The matter was adjourned till 21st May, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
