Man, 23, Arrested For Recruiting Self Into Nigerian Army With Fake Military Uniforms & Identity Cards

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Joshua was apprehended at T.A. Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos, while in possession of the aforementioned items with the intent to present himself as a member of the Nigerian Army.

However, the Military Intelligence discovered, arrested and detained him at the Barracks for interrogation over suspicion of being a fake Military officer.

While being interrogated, he reportedly admitted to have recruited himself into the Nigerian Army, procured fake identity cards by himself and was parading himself as a Military officer.

He was handed over to the Police at the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team of the State Command. He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for impersonation, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Adeyemo Joshua ‘m’ on the 1st January, 2026, at about 1000hrs at T.A. Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did wear Nigerian Army camouflage t-shirt, face cap and in possession of fake Nigerian Army identity card and fake pass with intent to present yourselves as a member of Nigerian Army and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 77(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Adeyemo Joshua ‘m’ on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession one Nigerian Army camouflage t-shirt, one face cap, one Nigerian Army identity card and one fake pass and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
