Man, 24, Arrested For Renting N5.8m Video Cameras & Auctioning Same For N980,000

A 24-year old man, Eromosele Ikpefan, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly renting two video cameras valued at N5.8m for work and secretly selling same at Alaba International Market and Computer Village for N980,000 before he escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ikpefan, has been charged for stealing before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged criminal conduct.
The incident happened at Pipeline Junction, Ejigbo area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect went to a shop belonging to Oladuyo Samuel and hired Canon 5 D camera worth N3.5m and sold to Dalu Media Enterprises at Alaba Market for N480,000. While the owner, Samuel, was looking for him to recover his camera, he went to another shop belonging to Anthony Udogu and rented a Sony camera with battery and two lens worth N1.5m and sold same for N500,000.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ejigbo Division. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested Ikpefan and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, he confessed that he rented it, have sold it and had spent the money to solve the problem he was facing before the idea came to him to rent the Cameras and sell them.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 25th March, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
