A 24-year old man, Sellah Abubakar, who went inside the Mosque, stole a ceiling fan and was caught, has justified his action by telling the Police that he wanted to sell the fan and use the money to buy food in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th May, 2023, at the Mosque located at Mufutau Olorunfemi Street, Akesan area of Lagos.
The suspect was caught and handed over to the Police operatives at Igando Division, where he was detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, Abubakar reportedly told the Police that he was very hungry and needed money to buy food. So, he decided to go to the Mosque in the evening and stole the fan before he was caught.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged stealing.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 21st June, 2023, for mention.
