Man, 24, Batters Police Inspector For Impounding Motorcycle On Lagos Highway

A 24-year old man, Abubakar Manu, has been arrested and charged for allegedly battering a Police Inspector, Akinyemi Aderemi, for impounding a motorcycle on Lagos highway.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ijegun area of Lagos, where Inspector Aderemi went to perform his official duty as stipulated by Lagos State Laws.
Apart from beating Inspector Aderemi mercilessly, the suspect, Manu and others at large, reportedly recovered the seized the motorcycle, gave it back to the owner and asked him to go.
According to the Police, the rider was apprehended by the victim for plying on a prohibited area against the Lagos State Traffic Law before the suspect, Manu, attacked and injured him in the process.
The alleged assault was reported to the DPO, who deployed officers to apprehend the suspect. Manu was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, Manu was alleged to have complained that the owner of the motorcycle was trying to survive and by seizing the motorcycle means he will be denied means of livelihood.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conspiracy and assault.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. K. Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
The defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 5th June, 2023, for mention.
