A 25-year old man, Desmond Gyndu, has displayed his boxing prowess on his rival, Hakeem Sholola, by hitting him with fists blows, he fell down and die during a public fight in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened Lugard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The suspect, Desmond, was said to have attempted to escape but he was held and asked to take care of the corpse of the victim before he was handed over to the Police.
After being arrested, he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Yaba, Lagos, for investigation over the alleged murder.
During interrogation, Desmond reportedly told the Police that he had no intention to kill during the fight and was surprised when the victim fell down and became unconscious before he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where Doctors confirmed him dead.
However, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrates Court for murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the alleged offence was a capital offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
