The Police intelligence team at Isheri Oshun Division of the Lagos State Command has unraveled the criminal sophistication of a 25-year old man, Usman Abdullahi, who allegedly hacked into Bet9ja’s account, carted away N.6m without trace and bolted away.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Isolo Road, Ijegun area of Lagos, where Abdullahi logged into the Bet9ja account being operated by Baggio Ventures.
The disappearance of the money from the account was said to have thrown the management of the Baggio Ventures into confusion as they wondered how the money disappeared without any trace.
The matter was reported to the Police and the DPO, SP Oluwole Oyedele, moved into action. The missing money was then traced to Abdullahi, who had previously worked at the Bet9ja company and the Police then arrested him for interrogation.
During interrogation, Abdullahi reportedly opened up and told the Police that he was actually behind the theft and explained that he had worked for Bet9ja before and he used former Bet9ja code on the account number to login and steal the money.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and stealing for hacking into the account and stealing the money.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 24th October, 2022, for mention.
