A Police Officer attached to Makinde Division had a nasty experience while investigating a suspect, Oluwatomiwa Akanni, over an alleged criminal matter and the suspect allegedly stole his wrist watch worth N.25m inside the station in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 5th of July, 2025 at about 0800hrs, at Makinde Police Station, Mafoluku, Oshodi.
The Police Sergeant, Daniel Ajibola, kept the wrist watch inside a locker and the suspect allegedly broke it and carted away the watch.
The 25-year old Akanni has been charged for willful damage and stealing under the Criminal law of the State.
According to the Police, the suspect was undergoing an interrogation over an undisclosed matter. And when Sergeant Ajibola left the office, the suspect broke the padlock and stole the item.
However, he was later charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, OLUWATOMIWA AKANNI ‘m’, on the 5th day of July, 2025 at about 0800hrs, at Makinde Police Station, Mafoluku, Oshodi, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal one Casio wrist watch valued the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N250,000.00), property of one Daniel Ajibola ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, OLUWATOMIWA AKANNI ‘m’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did willfully damage a locker padlock belonging to One Sergeant Oladimeji Memuleyi and carted away with one Casio wristwatch valued the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N250,000.00) and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
