Man, 26, In Police Net Over S*x With Lady Without Her Consent

A 26-year old man, Boniface Friday, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured a lady and forcefully engaged her in sex without her consent.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Friday, has been arrested and charged for statutory rape.

The incident happened at on 23rd April, 2023, at Sanusi Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect lured the lady to an apartment, tried to engaged her in the act but she refused and he then forcefully penetrated her. Having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go.

However, that did not go down well with the lady as she went to the Police in the area and reported that Friday raped her. The Police promptly arrested him and transferred the matter to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for interrogation.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and then charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for rape, an offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor,  Inspector Christopher John, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, O. A. Ogunjobi, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
