Man, 29, Docked For Swindling Popular Eatery Of N6.8m Under False Pretence

A 29-year old man, Abayomi Elijah Fatoye, has landed in trouble for allegedly swindling a popular eatery in Lagos State, Yummy You Cake and Restaurant, to the tune of N6.8m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in February,2025 at Computer Village, Ikeja area of Lagos.
The suspect,  Fatoye, obtained the money under the false pretence of creating Food App delivery and supply of system which turned to be false.
According to the Police, the suspect collected the money for the creation of Food App delivery and supply system. He gave the owner a time period within which he will deliver the job, which never happened. Rather he bolted away with the money and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant.
The alleged fraud was reported to the Police at Ikeja Division. The suspect was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Abayomi Elijah Fatoye ‘m’ sometime in the month of February, 2025 in Computer Village Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did fraudulently obtain the sum of Six Million, Eight Hundred and Sixty One Thousand Naira (N6,861,000.00k), from the owner of Yummy You Cake and Restaurant under the pretence of creating Food App delivery and supply of system and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Abayomi Elijah Fatoye ‘m’ on same date and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum of Six Million Eight Hundred and Sixty One Thousand Naira (N6,861,000.00k) money belonging to the owner of Yummy You Cake and Restaurant and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
