A cleric, Pastor Oluwaseun Akeem, of the Mountain of Power Deliverance and Ministry Church and members of his church in Lagos State, narrowly escaped death after a man, Isaiah Egundare, allegedly invaded the church with dangerous weapons to kill them during church service.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oyetoro Street, Omiata Bus Stop, Meiran Road, Abule Egba, Lagos, where the church is located.
The 32-year old suspect, Egundare, reportedly went to the Church with dangerous weapons such as knife cutlass, axe among others, threatening to kill Pastor Akeem and members of the church over an undisclosed matter between him and the Pastor.
The invasion temporarily disrupted church service as members including the Pastor were alleged to have temporarily moved out seeking for safety before the security men intervened.
However,  before the security men intervened and apprehended him, the suspect, Egundare, had succeeded in destroying the church’s fence and aluminium glass doors worth N5.5m belonging to the church.
The cause of the quarrel between the suspect and the Pastor was not disclosed by the Police, who alleged that the suspect constituted nuisance by threatening to kill his target and destroying the property worth the said amount.
The matter was reported to the Police at Area P Command, Ipaja and the suspect  was arrested. He was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence having been found culpable for his alleged conduct under the Criminal Laws and of the State.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 18th March, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
