A 32-year old man, Jonathan Oludare, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly forcefully engaging his neighbour’s 16-year old girl in sex  before the victim was rescued by their neighbours.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Isale Street, Ijora Badia area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the victim into his apartment and forcefully engaged her in the act. She shouted for help, which attracted the attention of their neighbours.
However, the neighbours went to his door, knocked severally for him to open but he was adamant and continued with the act. While still hearing the cry of the victim, they forced the door open and rescued her.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ijora Badia Division and the suspect was arrested. From there, he was transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The Charge read: “That you, Jonathan Oludare ‘m’, on the 8th day of September 2024, at No. 40, Isale Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did defile the victim by having sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when the DPP’s report will be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
