Man, 34, Arraigned For Parading Himself In Stolen Nigerian Army Uniform

A 34-year-old man, Gideon Amanu, has been arrested and arraigned in Lagos State for allegedly parading himself in stolen Nigerian Army uniforms.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident occurred on 1st March, 2026, in the Ojo area of Lagos.
He was caught with military uniforms, including a Nigerian Army woodland camouflage, allegedly stolen from one Michael Amanu.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired to impersonate and unlawfully were in possession of Nigerian Army uniforms.
While operating in the area, he was accosted by operatives from the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team from the Lagos State Command and detained for interrogation over his conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offences, which attract several years of imprisonment upon conviction.
The charges read:
COUNT I:”That you, Gideon Amanu, ‘m’, and others now at large, on the 1st day of March, 2026, at about 11:55 hrs, at Ojo area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit a felony to wit: Impersonation, Unlawful Possession of Nigerian Army Uniform, Stealing, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Gideon Amanu, ‘m’, and others now at large, on the same date, time, and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did impersonate the Nigerian Army by wearing a Nigerian Army woodland camouflage T-shirt to present yourself as a member of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 77(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Gideon Amanu, ‘m’, and others now at large, on the same date, time, and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession one Nigerian Army woodland camouflage jungle uniform, a Nigerian Navy sticker, and a Nigerian Army woodland camouflage T-shirt, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 79(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, Gideon Amanu, ‘m’, and others now at large, on the same date, time, and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal one Nigerian Army woodland camouflage T-shirt, property of one Michael Amanu, ‘m’, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere, then asked the Court to fix a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations against him.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties. The sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment, with their addresses to be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for hearing while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
