A 35-year old man, Sunday Emeyinola, has been arrested after he allegedly lured a 13-year old girl into sex and she eventually became pregnant in Ojodu area of Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that he is now facing a charge for statutory rape, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court over the act.

But the suspect, Sunday, has insisted he did it rape the girl as he did so with the girl’s consent, as she denied ever asking him to impregnate her during the act as alleged by suspect.

The act, which has temporarily landed in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, took place after he came back from work in the afternoon and lured the girl to his apartment. There, he engaged her in sex before he allowed her to leave but warned her not to reveal what happened to anyone.

However, after some weeks, the girl became sick and a test was conducted on her to find out the cause of the sickness; the result showed she was pregnant.

She then revealed how Sunday had lured and engaged her in sex, which resulted into the pregnancy. The matter was reported to the Police and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for further interrogation.

After interrogation, the operatives at the Gender Section found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Victor Eruada, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.

The matter may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence over jurisdiction while the matter was adjourned till 9th September, 2021.
