Man, 37, Docked For Engaging Girl, 12, In S*x

A 37-year old man, Ugwulor Promise, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured a 12-year old girl into his room, got her confused, then engaged her in sex and she started bleeding. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect Promise, has been arrested for the alleged defilement. 

The incident happened at Salami Street,  Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos, where they reside. 

The Police alleged the suspect to have lured the girl into his apartment and forcefully had sex with her. And as a result of the force he used in the penetration, she was said to have bled profusely. She then raised alarm which attracted other neighbours before she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect, Promise, was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for interrogation. 

During interrogation, he admitted to have slept with her but said that it was with her consent and only raised the alarm because of the bleeding and as such he did not rape her. 

The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence because the victim is still a minor. 

When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea but rather ordered his remand in custody following a motion moved by the prosecutor,  Supol Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice. 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Layinka, did not take his plea and ordered him remanded pending when the DPP’s report will be ready while she directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP. 

The matter was adjourned till 19th May, 2022, for the report of the DPP to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
